Cavendish, Georgiana, Duchess of Devonshire (1757 -1806)

Georgiana Spencer was the daughter of John, 1st Earl Spencer, and Margaret Georgiana, elder daughter of Stephen Poyntz, of Midgham in Berkshire. She married, on the 5 June 1774, William, 5th Duke of Devonshire. A beautiful and intelligent woman, and a leader of fashion, she was a friend of Gibbon, Sheridan and Charles James Fox, travelled on the Continent, and wrote verse. Sales of duplicates from the library of William Spencer Cavendish, 6th Duke of Devonshire took place at R.H. Evans 29 May and 24 November 1815.
