Coke, Theophila, Lady (1596 -1643)

Theophila Lady Coke was the only daughter of Sir Thomas Berkeley (1575-1611), son of Henry 7th Lord Berkeley, and Elizabeth Carey, daughter and sole heir of George Carey, 2nd Baron Hunsdon. Her younger brother was George Berkeley, 8th Baron Berkeley. She married Sir Robert Coke, son of Sir Edward Coke, Lord Chief Justice, and Bridget Paston. Sir Robert is mentioned in the diary of Samuel Pepys for 30 May 1688, and it is possible that his wife Elizabeth is the `Eliza: Pepys' whose name appears on the titlepage.

Her armorial stamp is identical to that of her brother, George Berkeley 8th Baron Berkeley
