Cottrell-Dormer, Clement, Sir (1686 -1758)

Probably the stamps of Sir Clement Cottrell, Master of Ceremonies, was born around 1685. He was educated at Eton 1697-1704 and at Trinity Hall, Cambridge which he entered in 1706 and took his LL.B. in 1710. He was a Fellow of the College 11 June 1709-1716, was knighted 24 July 1710 and made Master of Ceremonies from 1710-1758. He married the only daughter and heir of D. Sherborne and they had two sons and five daughters. Sir Clement took the additional name and arms of Dormer in 1741, when he inherited the Rousham estate from his cousin General James Dormer. He died 11 October 1758 aged 73.
