Douglas, Caroline, Marchioness of Queensberry (1774 -1854)

Caroline Douglas was the third daughter of Henry, 3rd Duke of Buccleugh and Queensberry, and Elizabeth, daughter and eventual heir of George, Duke of Montagu. She married, 3 August 1803, her kinsman Sir Charles Douglas, 5th Baronet of Kelhead. In 1810, he succeeded his kinsman William, 4th Duke of Queensberry in the Marquessate of Queensberry, the Dukedom passing to the Duke of Buccleuch. He was created a peer of the United Kingdom as Baron Solway of Kinmount 7 June 1833. They had eight daughters, but no sons, and so when the Marquess died in 1837, his English peerage became extinct, and he was succeeded as Marquess by his younger brother John.
