Douglas, George Henry Scott, Sir, 5th Baronet, of Maxwell (1825 -1885)

Sir George Henry Scott Douglas, 4th Baronet of Springwood Park, Kelso, was the only son of Sir John James Scott Douglas, 3rd Baronet, and Hannah Charlotte, only daughter and heir of Henry Scott, of Belford, in Roxburghshire. He succeeded to the title 24 January 1836. He was a Captain in the 34th Regiment of Foot 1843 1851, Lieutenant Colonel of the Roxburgh and Selkirk Rifle Volunteers 1868 1885, Member of Parliament for Roxburghshire from 1874 1880, and Brigadier General of the Royal Company of Archers. He married, 1 November 1851, Mariquita Juana Petronila, eldest daughter of Don Francisco Sanchez de Piña, of Gibraltar. Books from his library were sold at Sotheby’s in London 25-27 July1938.
