Duncan, Andrew (1773 -1832)

Andrew Duncan was the son of Andrew Duncan, physician and Professor of the Theory of Medicine in the University of Edinburgh and Elizabeth Knox. He studied medicine, commencing in 1787 at Edinburgh, taking his M.A. in 1793 and obtaining his M.D. in 1794. After much travel abroad he became the first Professor of Medical Jurisprudence in the University of Edinburgh in 1807. In July 1821 he was elected Professor of Materia Medica and Pharmacy, and also served the University as Principal Librarian and Secretary.
