Grey, Elizabeth Talbot, Countess of Kent (1581 -1651)

Elizabeth Talbot was the second daughter and coheir of Gilbert Talbot, 7th Earl of Shrewsbury, and Mary Cavendish, daughter of Sir William Cavendish, and Henry Grey, Earl of Kent. She married, before September 1602, Henry Grey, 8th Earl of Kent. After the death of the Earl of Kent in 1639, she is said to have married secretly John Selden but the fact was not made public until after her death “upon some lawe account”. She bequeathed most of her property to Selden, through whom her books passed to the Bodleian Library.
