Part of his library, mostly modern books, was sold at Sotheby, Wilkinson & Hodge 17 March 1924. Catalogue of printed books comprising a selection from the library of the late Dr. George Kavanagh, 7 Gresham Terrace, Kingstown, Co. Dublin, including a collection of the works of Charles Dickens; original drawings & books illustrated by George Cruikshank; first editions of R.S. Surtees; a collection of books relating to Ireland etc. The Erasmus is not mentioned in the catalogue, but there are some miscellaneous lots. The crest of the Carlow family of Kavanagh is Between the arms of a crescent gules a garb or, with the arms Argent a lion passant and in base two crescents gules, and the motto Siothchain agus fairsinge.
