Lockhart, William (1789 -1856)

William Lockhart, of Milton Lockhart, Carluke, was the only son of the Reverend Dr John Lockhart, Minister of Cambusnethan and afterwards of Blackfriars, Glasgow, and his first wife, Elizabeth, daughter of Robert Dinwiddie in Germiston, and half brother of John Gibson Lockhart, who was the eldest son by his second wife. He was Deputy Lieutenant for Lanarkshire, and Member of the Parliament for Lanarkshire 1841 1856. He married, 16 April 1822, Mary Jane, daughter of Sir Hugh Palliser, 3rd Baronet. He died without issue in 1856, and was succeeded in his estates by his half brother the Reverend Dr Laurence Lockhart, Minister of Inchinnan in Renfrewshire.
