Napier, Francis Scott, 6th Lord Napier, of Merchiston (1702 -1773)

Francis Scott, 6th Lord Napier of Merchiston, was the only son of Sir William Scott, 2nd Baronet of Thirlestane in Selkirkshire, and Elizabeth, Mistress of Napier. He succeeded his grandmother Margaret Napier, Baroness Napier in 1706, and his father in the baronetcy, as 3rd Baronet, in 1725., and assumed the name Napier. He was a Commissioner of Police 1717, and travelled abroad 1731 or earlier, and served as a volunteer in the allied campaign of 1743. He married, firstly, Henrietta, third daughter of Charles Hope, 1st Earl of Hopetoun. She died 17 February 1745 and he married secondly, in 1750, Henrietta Maria, daughter of George Johnston, army agent in Dublin. He died 11 April 1773 and was succeeded by his son William, 7th Lord Napier.
