Poulett, John, 4th Earl Poulett (1756 -1819)

John Poulett, 4th Earl was born 3 April 1756, the eldest son of Vere, 3rd Earl Poulett, and Mary, daughter and coheir of Richard Butt of Arlingham in Gloucestershire. He succeeded his father 14 April 1788. He was Colonel of the East Devon Militia 1778-1803, a Lord of the Bedchamber 1795-1819, Lord Lieutenant of Somerset, and a Knight of the Thistle. He married 1stly 22 July 1792 Sophia, daughter and heiress of Admiral Sir Charles Pocock K.B. She died 24 January 1811, and he married secondly 23 July 1816 Margaret, daughter and heiress of Ynyr Burges of East Ham, and widow of Sir John Smith Burges, Baronet. Earl Poulett died 14 January 1819, and was succeeded by his eldest son, John, 5th Earl Poulett.
