Scott, William Henry Walter, 6th Duke of Buccleuch and 8th Duke of Queensberry (1831 -1914)

William Henry Walter Montagu Douglas Scott was the eldest son of Walter Francis, 5th Duke of Buccleuch and Charlotte Anne Thynne, youngest daughter of the 2nd Marquess of Bath. He was educated at Eton and Christ Church, Oxford. He was Member of Parliament for Midlothian 1853 1868 and 1874 1880. He married, 22 November 1859, Louisa Jane Hamilton, third daughter of the 1st Duke of Abercorn. He was Lieutenant Colonel of the Midlothian Yeomanry 1856 1872, Lord Lieutenant of Dumfriesshire 1858 1914, and Captain General of the Royal Company of Archers. Duplicates from the Buccleuch library were sold at Sotheby, Wilkinson & Hodge on the 25 March 1889, and a further part of the library at Sotheby & Co's Hodgson's Rooms 17 March 1971.
