Sleigh, Samuel, Sir (1604 -1679)

Sir Samuel Sleigh of Ashe in Derbyshire, was son and heir of Gervase Sleigh of Ashe. He was educated at Christ's College, Cambridge, where he matriculated as Fellow Commoner in July 1621. He was admitted a student at Gray's Inn 20 October 1623. He was knighted in July 1641. He bought Pool Hall in 1629, and Etwall Hall in 1646, was Sheriff of Derbyshire in 1648 and 1666, Member of Parliament for Essex 1654 1655, and for Derbyshire 1656 1658. He married firstly Judith, daughter of Sir Edward Boys of Betteshanger, and secondly Margaret, daughter of Sir Robert Darcy of Dartford in Kent. His sons, Gervase, Samuel and Edward all predeceased him, and his estates passed to his daughters. Abigail married Rowland Cotton of Bellaport in Shropshire, and left issue; the other married Humphry Chetham.
