Biography: 

Hugh Lupus Grosvenor was the second, but eldest surviving son of Richard, Earl Grosvenor, afterwards 2nd Marquess of Westminster and Elizabeth Mary, daughter of George Granville, 1st Duke of Sutherland. Viscount Belgrave during the lifetime of his father, he was educated at Balliol College, Oxford, where he matriculated 2 June 1843. He was elected Member of Parliament for Chester from 1847 1869. He married, 28 April 1852, Constance Gertrude Leveson Gower, youngest daughter of the 2nd Duke of Sutherland. He succeeded his father in 1869, and was created Duke of Westminster 27 February 1874. He was a Knight of the Garter 1870, a Privy Councillor, Lord Lieutenant of Cheshire, Master of the Horse from 1880 to 1885, and aide de camp to the Queen. His first wife dying 19 December 1880, he married, 29 July 1882, Katherine Caroline, third daughter of William George Cavendish, 2nd Baron Chesham.
