Biography:

Edward Stratford, 2nd Earl of Aldborough, was the eldest son of John Stratford of Baltinglass and Martha, daughter and coheir of the Venerable Benjamin O'Neal, Archdeacon of Leighlin in County Carlow. He married Barbara, second daughter of the Honourable Nicholas Herbert of Great Glenham in Suffolk in 1765. She died on 11 April 1785, and he married, on 24 March 1788, Anne Elizabeth, only daughter of Sir John Henniker Baronet. He was made a Fellow of the Royal Society, and an Honorary D.C.L. of Oxford. He was elected Member for Taunton in the Parliament of Great Britain in 1774, but was unseated on petition in 1776 for bribery and corrupt practices. He then sat as Member of the Irish Parliament for Baltinglass until his father's death. His father was created Earl of Aldborough shortly before his death in 1777. The 2nd Earl was made Governor of Wicklow in 1778. As he died without issue, the Earldom passed to his brother John.
