First Name(s):
Edward Brainerd
Birth Year:
1820
Death Year:
1879

19th
Biography:

According to Bernard Burke the arms are certainly those of Edward Brainerd Webb (see A selection of arms authorized by the laws of heraldry. London, 1860. Plate XXX). However, as An apology for the life of Mr Colley Cibber was not published until 1889, and Webb died in 1879, the attribution is questionable.

Edward Brainerd Webb was born at Leicester in 1820, the son of the Rev. Edward Webb, and Elizabeth, the daughter of Richard Marsh. In 1845 at Battersea, he married Ellen Fewing (1826-1861) of Barnstable. They had one daughter.
After working as a civil engineer in London, Barnstable, and Hastings, he spent 1846-1851 in Coleraine working on the Londonderry & Coleraine Railway. Webb left Ireland for Brazil towards the end of 1852 and spent the rest of his extremely active career in England and South America.
In December 1858 he was elected a member of the Institution. He died at Aix-la-Chapelle on 26 May 1879.
