Agnew, Stair, Sir, 6th Baronet (1834 -1909)

Sir Stair Agnew 6th Bart of Lochnaw was the fifth, but eldest surviving, son of Sir Andrew Agnew, 5th Bart, a Lieutenant General in the army and Governor of Tinmouth Castle, and Eleanor, daughter and eventual sole heir of Thomas Agnew of the house of Lochryn. He married, firstly, Mary, daughter of Thomas Baillie, of Polkemmet. She died 9 April 1769. He succeeded to the baronetcy in 1771, and married, secondly, 11 April 1775, Margaret, daughter of Thomas Naesmith, of Dumblair. The motto round the arms is that of a Baronet of Nova Scotia, the family motto is Consilio non impetu.
