Blair, Alexander (1789 -1859)

Alexander Blair, Treasurer of the Bank of Scotland, was the son of William Blair, a captain in the 13th regiment of foot, and his wife, Margaret Freeland. The family arms were registered 9 May 1849 (Lyon Register v. 3). His only daughter Mary Elizabeth married James Stuart Fraser Tytler of Woodhouselee, and died 1857, leaving, with other issue, a son James William Tytler (1854 1904), educated at Oriel College, Oxford. The crest and motto on the seal impression are those of Tytler.
