Bligh, Edward (1795 -1835)

According to George Baytun this is the monogram of Edward Bligh, 5th Earl of Darnley (1795-1835), known as Baron Clifton until 1831, when he inherited his father’s title.  He was the second but eldest surviving son of John Bligh, 4th Earl of Darnley, and Elizabeth Brownlow.  He attended Eton College and Christ Church, Oxford and served as MP for Canterbury from 1818 until 1830.. He was Lord Lieutenant of Co. Meath from 1831 until his death in 1835. In 1825 he married Emma Jane Parnell, and had three children. His son, John Stuart, became the 6th Earl of Darnley. 

The Darnley family seat of Cobham Hall in Kent was sold in 1955.
