Browne, Howe Peter, 2nd Marquess of Sligo (1788 -1845)
Howe Peter Browne was the only son of John Denis Browne, 1st Marquess of Sligo and Lady Louisa Catherine Howe, youngest daughter and coheir of Richard, Earl Howe. Educated at Eton and Jesus College Cambridge, receiving his M.A. in 1808. He succeeded his father in 1809, was made a Knight of St Patrick 24 March 1810. He served as Governor and Vice Admiral of Jamaica from 1833 1836. He married, 4 March 1816, Hester Catherine de Burgh, eldest daughter of the John Thomas, 13th Earl of Clanricarde. Part of his library was sold at Sotheby's 21 and 30 July 1924, and the remainder in sales at Christie's 27 June 1955 and 6 October 1958, and at Sotheby's 1 July 1968, 21 February 1972, 7 May 1973 and 6 May 1981.
