Campbell, Ian Douglas, 11th Duke of Argyll (1903 -1973)
Ian Douglas Campbell was the son of Douglas Walter Campbell and Aimee Maria Suzanne Lawrtence. He inherited the dukedom from his first cousin once removed, Niall Diarmid Campbell, 10th Duke of Argyll, in 1949.
He was married four times: His first marriage was to Janet Gladys Aitken, daughter of press baron Lord Beaverbrook in 1927 (divorced 1934). The marriage produced one daughter.
His second wife was Louise Hollingsworth Morris Clews, daughter of American artist Henry Clews Jr. in 1935 (divorced 1951); this marriage produced a son and a daughter. Campbell’s third marriage was to socialite Margaret Whigham in 1951. The marriage ended in scandal in 1963, when the duke sued for divorce on account of his wife numerous sexual affairs with a host of men. Finally, in 1963, he married Mathilda Coster Mortimer. He was succeeded in the dukedom by his son Ian, from his second marriage.
