Cavendish, William, 2nd Earl of Devonshire (1590 -1628)
William Cavendish was the second, but eldest surviving son, of William Cavendish, 1st Earl of Devonshire, and Anne, daughter and coheir of Henry Keighley, of Keighley in Yorkshire. Educated at Cambridge, where he was created M.A., he was admitted to Gray's Inn in 1602, incorporated at Oxford 8 July 1608, and was knighted at Whitehall 7 March 1609. He married, 10 April 1608, Christian, daughter of Edward Bruce, 1st Lord Kinloss, and sister of the 1st Earl of Elgin. He served as Member of Parliament for Bishop's Castle 1610 1611, and for Derbyshire 1614, 1621 1622, and 1624 1626. He succeeded his father 3 March 1626.
