Charlotte Sophia, Queen Consort of George III (1744 -1818)

Charlotte Sophia was the youngest daughter of Charles Lewis, brother of Frederic, third Duke of Mecklenberg Strelitz. She married George III on 7 September 1761, and until his last illness they were very happy. Her husband never discussed affairs of state with her, and her life was entirely domestic. She collected a large collection of books, which were sold after her death by Christie's on 9 June 1819 as A catalogue of the genuine library, prints, and books of prints, of an illustrious personage, lately deceased. The Mme de Genlis was lot 1124 and Théatre à l'usage des jeunes personnes was lot 2111. Guigard attributes the second stamp to both George II and to George III on the authority of two French booksellers catalogues "No 70 du catalogue Arthur Dinaux, 2e partie." and "No 192 du Catal. Lambilly 1866."
