Champion de Crespigny, Claude , Sir (1706 -1782)

The Huguenot family of Champion de Crespigny originated from Normandy, France. In 1685, in the wake of the revocation of the Edict of Nantes, Thomas Champion de Crespigny (d. 1712) resettled in England, and served in the British Army. Claude Campion de Crespigny was born in 1706, to Thomas and Magdalaine Crespigny (born Granger). Claude worked at South Sea House in London. He died unmarried in 1782. He left his library to his great nephew, Hugh Reveley (1772–1851), whose signature is in pencil on the recto of the free endpaper of several of his books.
