Devereux, Walter, 5th Viscount Hereford (1578 -1657)

Walter Devereux was the second, but eldest surviving, son of Sir Edward Devereux, 1st Baronet, of Castle Bromwich in Warwickshire, and Catherine, eldest daughter of Edward Arden of Park Hall in Warwick. His father was the youngest son of Walter, 1st Viscount Hereford. Walter was Member of Parliament for Stafford in 1614, for Marlborough 1621 1622, for Worcestershire 1624 1625, and for Worcester City in 1625. He succeeded his father as 2nd Baronet in 1622, was Sheriff of Worcestershire 1625 1626 and succeeded his cousin, Robert Devereux, 2nd Earl of Essex, as Viscount Hereford in 1646. His lordship married first Elizabeth, daughter and heir of Robert Bayspoole, of Aldeby in Norfolk, but they had no issue. His second wife was Elizabeth, second daughter of Thomas Knightley of Borough Hall in Staffordshire, and widow of Thomas Martin.
