Elphinstone, Robert, 3rd Lord Elphinstone (1530 -1602)

Robert Elphinstone was the eldest son of Alexander 2nd Lord Elphinstone and Katherine third daughter of the 3rd Lord Erskine, and was born 9 September 1530. His father died at the Battle of Pinkie 10 September 1547, and Robert succeeded under a special dispensation for orphans of noblemen who died at Flodden, and he therefore succeeded without tutors or the usual safeguards for a minor. He was not good with money and he petitioned the Privy Council to appoint trustees. He married in 1564, Margaret daughter and coheir of Sir John Drummond of Innerpeffrey. He died 18 May 1602 and was succeeded by his son Alexander.
