Grant, John Peter (1838 -1927)

The crest and motto are those of Grant of Rothiemurchas, possibly for John Peter Grant, son of John Peter Grant, of the Bengal Civil Service and Marion, second daughter of Richard Lowe of London. He was educated at Marlborough College and Trinity College, Oxford, became a Barrister of the Inner Temple, a member of the Society of Advocates, and a Major in the first Volunteer Battalion of the Queen's Own Cameron Highlanders. He married firstly , 1st, 27 September 1882, Edith Mary Macpherson, and, secondly, 4 April 1899, Mary Augusta Pierrepoint, younger daughter of Earl Manvers.
