The arms and crest were granted on the 17th February 1773 to Grave of Hatfield in Berkshire. Neither item is in the catalogue of the sale of Robert Grave printseller at Leigh, Sotheby & Son 18 April 1803 or that of Robert Grave print collector at Sotheby's 4 May 1826. The Brook who engraved the bookplate, is recorded in Thieme Becker. Kunstlerlexikon as R. Brook, an engraver of armorial bookplates who worked in London from 1810-1840.
