The stamp of a member of the family of Helsby, of Helsby in Cheshire. Burke's General Armory gives the crest as a demi lion rampant or holding a plain cross gules and a saltire sable, and the motto as En Dieu est mon esperance, with twenty-five quarterings to the arms. The first quarter corresponds, and considering the nature of the manuscript on which it was stamped, it can only be the arms of a nineteenth century member of the Helsby family.
