Holles, Francis, 2nd Baron Holles, of Ifield (1627 -1690)

Francis Holles was the second, but eldest surviving son of Denzil Holles. who was created Baron Holles of Ifield in 1661, and his first wife, Dorothy, only daughter and heir of Sir Francis Ashley of Dorchester in Dorset. A Serjeant in law, Member of Parliament for Lostwithiel 1647 1648, for Wiltshire 1654 1655, for Northallerton 1660, and for Dorchester 1679 1680, Francis Holles was created a baronet 27 June 1660, and succeeded his father in 1680. He married twice, firstly, 22 August 1661, Lucy, youngest daughter of Sir Robert Carr 2nd Baronet of Sleford in Lincolnshire, by whom he had two daughters both of whom died in infancy; and secondly, 9 June 1670, Anne, eldest daughter and heir of Sir Francis Pile, 2nd Baronet of Compton Beauchamp in Berkshire. They had a daughter, Jane, who died young, and a son, Denzil, who succeeded his father as 3rd Lord Holles, but died unmarried 25 January 1694 at the age of 20.
