Innes, George (1760 -1842)

The Rev. George Innes was the son of the Rev. Edward Innes, of Devizes in Wiltshire, and Elizabeth, daughter of George Moore. He was educated at Merton College, Oxford, where he matriculated 20 May 1778, age eighteen, and was a Demy at Magdalen College Oxford 1781 1788, taking his B.A. in 1782, and his M.A. in 1785. He was a Fellow of Magdalen 1788 1793. He bacame Assistant Master at Rugby School 1783 1792, Master of King Henry VIII's School, Warwick 1792 1842, and Rector of Hilperton in Wiltshire 1798 1842. He married, in 1793, Isabella, eldest daughter of Captain Henry Stodart. His library was sold at auction in London by Puttick and Simpson 3 March 1851, but this appears to have been only part, the more valuable books having been sold either privately or anonymously.
