Jerningham, William, Sir, 6th Baronet (1736 -1809)

Sir William Jerningham, 6th Baronet, of Cossey in Norfolk, was born 7 March 1736, the eldest son of Sir George Jerningham, 5th Baronet, and Mary Plowden. He married on the 16 June 1767, Frances eldest daughter of Henry Dillon, 11th Viscount Dillon in the peerage of Ireland. He succeeded to the baronetcy 21 January 1774 . On the death of Lady Anastasia Stafford-Howard in 1807, he became heir general of Sir William Howard, 1st Baron and 1st Viscount Stafford, and but for the attainder, 7th Baron Stafford. His son George William obtained the reversal of the attainder on 17 June 1824, became 8th Baron Stafford, and took the surname of Stafford before that of Jerningham.
