Jones, Evan Davies, Sir, Baronet (1859 -1949)
Sir Evan Davies Jones, 1st Baronet of Pentower, was the eldest son of Thomas Jones of Pentower, Fishguard, Pembrokeshire, and Martha Philipps, youngest daughter of Evan Davies, of Pentower. He was educated privately and at University College, Bristol, and became a Member of the Institute of Civil Engineers and Director of Topham, Jones & Railton Ltd. Elected Member of Parliament for Pembrokeshire in December 1918, he sat for that constituency until his retirement in October 1922. A Justice of the Peace for Pembrokeshire, he held many important engineering and administrative posts, including that of Vice President of the National Library of Wales, and was created a baronet 9 July 1917. He married twice, firstly, in 1884, Cecilia Anne, daughter of Jacob Evans Esq, of St Fangans in Glamorganshire. She died in 1913, and he married secondly, in 1914, Lilly, daughter of James Railton, of Malpas in Mommouthshire. His library, largely of Welsh interest, was sold in London at Sotheby's 17 July 1939, 10 December 1940 and 28 April 1941.
