Littleton, Alfred Henry (1845 -1914)

Alfred Henry Littleton, Chairman of Novello and Co., Music Publishers and General Printers, was born in 1845, the eldest son of Henry Littleton, descended from the Littletons of Lanhydwch in Cornwall. He was educated at University College School, London and in Germany. He was a Member of the Council of the Royal College of Music, of the Committee of the Royal Choral Society, Royal Albert Hall, Master of the Musicians' Company 1910 1911, and a Ritter of the Prussian Order of the Red Eagle. He married, firstly, in 1868, Rosalind Maria Annie daughter of Edmund Bryan Harper of Hillsborough, County Down, secondly, in 1914, Emma, daughter of Alfred Welby, of Cleckheaton. Chairman of Novello & Co. He died 8 November 1914, and his library, mostly musical, was sold at auction by Sotheby's 13 May 1918.
