Manners-Sutton, Charles, Archbishop of Canterbury (1755 -1828)
Charles Manners-Sutton was born 14 February 1755 the fourth son of Lord George Manners-Sutton, and Diana, daughter of Thomas Chaplin of Blankney Lincolns. He was educated at Charterhouse and Emmanuel College, Cambridge, B.A. 1777 and 15th Wrangler; M.A. 1780; D.D. 1792. He was Rector of Avesham-with-Kelham Nottinghamshire, and Whitwell in Derbyshire, Dean of Peterborough 1791 and Bishop of Norwich 1792, Dean of Windsor in commendam 1794, and Archbishop of Canterbury 1805. He married in 1798 Mary, daughter of Thomas Thoroton of Sereveton in Nottinghamshire. They had two sons and ten daughters. He died 21 July 1828.
