Moore, Edward, 5th Earl of Drogheda (1701 -1758)

Edward Moore was born in 1701, the second son of Charles Lord Moore, and Jane, only daughter and heir of Arthur Viscount Loftus of Ely, and grandson of Henry 3rd Earl of Drogheda. He succeeded his elder brother Henry, 4th Earl, when he died childless 28 May 1727. The same year, he married Sarah Ponsonby, daughter of the 1st Earl of Bessborough, by whom he had three sons. She died in January 1737, and he married secondly, 13 October 1737, Bridget, daughter of William Southwell. The Earl and his third son, the Reverend Edward Moore were drowned on their passage to Dublin 28 November 1758, and his eldest son Charles succeeded to the Earldom. He and was subsequently created Marquess.
