Musgrave, George, Sir, 10th Baronet, of Hartley Castle (1799 -1872)

Sir George Musgrave, of Edenhall, was born 14 June 1799, the third son of Sir John Chardin Musgrave, 7th Baronet, and Mary, daughter of the Reverend Sir Edmund Filmer, Baronet. He was educated at University College, Oxford, matriculating 21 May 1819 age 19 and became an officer in the 5th Hussars. He married, 26 June 1828, Charlotte, daughter of Sir James Graham, 1st Baronet of Netherby. He succeeded his brother Sir Christopher, 11 May 1834, was a Deputy Lieutenant of Cumberland and Westmorland, and was High Sheriff of Cumberland in 1840. He died 29 December 1872 and was succeeded by his second son, Sir Richard Courtenay Musgrave. Books from his library were sold in London in 1924.
