According to Burke's General Armory, the arms are those of Orpwood of Abingdon in Berkshire. There are several possibilities. The first is Emma Jane Orpwood, born 1827 in Whitechapel, died 28 October 1893 in Southchurch, Essex. Another Emma Orpwood was born in 1837 at Godston, Oxfordshire. A third Emma Orpwood was born in 1851 at Bexleyheath, Kent, the daughter of Henry James Orpwood, and Louisa Smith. Finally, an Emma Mary Orpwood was born 22 March1862 in New Road, Oxford, the daughter of William Samuel Orpwood, and Emma Lipscomb. She died 7 June 1926 in Little Wenlock, Shropshire.
