Sanderson, Nicholas, 2nd Viscount Castleton (1593 -1640)

The family were descended from an Alexander de Bedick in the time of Edward III, who married Jane, daughter of Richard Chancellor. His sons were known as filii Alexandri or Saunderson.Nicolas Sanderson was the eldest son of Nicolas Sanderson, 1st Viscount Castleton, and Mildred, daughter and heir of John Hultoft or Hiltoft of Boston in Lincolnshire. He married Frances, daughter of Sir George Manners of Haddon, and sister of the 8th Earl of Rutland, and Grace, second daughter of Sir Henry Pierrepont, of Holme Pierrepont, Nottinghamshire. They had two sons. He succeeded to his father’s title in 1630 as 2nd Viscount Castleton. On his death, their eldest son, Nicolas, succeeded as 3rd Viscount (1625-1641), but held the title for only one year, dying without issue, when the estate and title descended to his younger brother, Peregrine (1628-1650).
