Skeffington, John, 2nd Viscount Massereene (1633 -1695)

Sir John Skeffington, of Fisherwick in Staffordshire, was the only son of Sir Richard Skeffington, and Anne, daughter of Sir John Newdigate. He was educated at Magdalene College, Cambridge, where he matriculated at Michaelmas 1649, age sixteen. He succeeded his cousin as 4th Baronet, and married, 20 July 1654, Mary, daughter and heir of Sir John Clotworthy, Viscount Massereene. On the death of his father in law, 23 September 1665, he succeeded to the title under a special remainder. He was Governor of the County of Londonderry and a member of the Privy Council for Ireland.
