Spottiswoode, John (1780 -1866)

John Spottiswoode, of Spottiswoode in Berwickshire, was the son of John Spottiswoode of that ilk, and Margaret Penelope, daughter of William Strachan Esq. of London. He was a Justice of the Peace and Deputy Lieutenant for Berwickshire. He married 13 September 1809, Helen, second daughter of Andrew Wauchope of Niddrie Marischal in Midlothian. He registered the arms, the ancient arms of Spottiswoode of that ilk, at the office of Lord Lyon in 1814. Books from his library were sold in London, at Sotheby's 3 July 1933. Some family papers were bought by the National Library of Scotland in 1935 (MS.2933 53).
