Stansfeld, John (1848 -1898)
John Stansfeld was born in Leeds 7 February 1848, the younger son of George Stansfeld, and Eliza Moxon of Leeds.. On 11 January 1872 he married Frances Sophia, daughter of Robert Burton. Frances died 28 January 1883. Together they had four children. John married secondly on 20 February 1884 Annie Sophia, daughter of Thomas Petch of Milford Hall near York. They had one child. In 1858 John founded a steel stockholding firm, selling iron bars, rivets and 2,000 different sizes of nuts and bolts. A catalogue of the library collected by John Stansfeld, Leeds, comprising a complete series of county histories and local topographies, chiefly on large paper with proof plates. Heraldic and genealogical publications. Fine specimens of tthe "Bulmer Press," many on large paper, uncut copies of rare works in the original bindings. Books on fine arts and costume.
