Tighe, William (1657 -1679)

William Tighe of Woodstock in County Kilkenny [Wicklow] was the only son of Alderman Richard Tighe, Mayor of Dublin in 1651, and Mary daughter of Thomas Newman of London. Educated at Trinity College, Dublin, which he entered 17 October 1672, he succeeded his father in 1673, and took his B.A. and married Anne eldest daughter of Sir Christopher Lovett in 1675. The arms were granted to his father in 1665 by Richard St George, Ulster King of Arms. The Bacon and the Ligon were among books `The property of Daniel Tighe, Esq. Rossanagh, Ashford, County Wicklow' in Sotheby's sale 13 March 1929 lots 845 to the end. A number of other items in the sale are described as having the arms of Tighe:

All these were bound in calf. A further selection of Daniel Tighe's books was sold on the 5 November (lots 556 603), but this time none of the known books are present, and none are noted as having the Tighe arms, though some from their date would seem possibly to have been in William Tighe's library.
