Verney, John Peyto, 14th Lord Willoughby de Broke (1738 -1816)

John Verney, afterwards Peyto Verney, who succeeded his uncle as 14th Lord Willoughby de Broke in 1752, was the only son of John Verney, third son of George Verney, 12th Baron Willoughby de Broke, and Abigail, only daughter of Edward Harley, of Eyewood in Herefordshire. He was educated at Christ Church, Oxford, where he matriculated 29 May 1755, and was created an M.A. 28 June 1758 and a D.C.L. 3 July 1759. He married, 8 October 1761, Lady Louisa North, daughter of the 1st Earl of Guilford, and widow of George Viscount Lewisham son of the Earl of Dartmouth, and was a Lord of the Bedchamber to George III. The bookplate is that of the 17th Lord who quartered Barnard, being the son of the Reverend Robert Barnard, and Louisa, daughter of the 14th Baron.
