Vigors, Bartholomew, Bishop of Ferns and Leighlin (1645 -1721)

Bartholomew Vigors was the fourth son of the Reverend Urban Vigors, of Ardnageehy in County Cork, and Catherine, daughter of the Rev. Thomas Boyle. He was educated at Trinity College Dublin, which he entered in September 1663, and where he took his LL.B. in 1666 and his LL.D. in 1675. He became Chancellor of the diocese of Ferns in 1668, Rector of St Mary's Wexford and Dean of Armagh in 1681, and was created Bishop of Leighlin and Ferns 27 February 1691. He married, about 1674, Martha, daughter of Constantine Neale, Esq. of New Ross, County Wexford.
