Wentworth, William, 2nd Earl of Strafford (2nd creation) (1626 -1690)
William Wentworth was born 8 June 1626, the son of Thomas Wentworth, 1st Earl Strafford, and his second wife, Arabella, daughter of John Hollis, Earl of Clare. His father the 1st Earl was executed on Tower Hill 12 May 1641. William was restored to all his honours by a fresh grant from Charles I on 1 December 1641. In 1662 Parliament reversed the attainder, and William succeeded his father as Earl of Strafford. He was made a Knight of the Garter 1 April 1661 and member of his Privy Council by Charles II. He married twice, firstly, 27 February 1655, Anne, daughter of James Stanley, Earl of Derby. She died in 1685. In 1694 he married secondly Henrietta, daughter of Charles de la Roye de Rochefoucault, Comte du Roye and Rouci. They had no children. He died 16 October 1695.
