Abdy, Robert, Sir, 1st Baronet, of Albyns (1st creation) (1615 -1670)
Sir Robert Abdy of Albyns in Essex was the second son of Sir Anthony Abdy, Alderman of St Andrew Undershaft in London, and Abigail, daughter of Sir Thomas Cambell, Lord Mayor of London. Sir Robert was one of three brothers all of whom were created baronets, Sir Robert was knighted on the 4 June, and created a Baronet on 9 June 1660. He married, in or before 1643, Catharine, eldest daughter of Sir John Gayer, who was Lord Mayor of London in 1646 7. The baronetcy became extinct 1 April 1739 on the death of the 4th Baronet, the library passing with the estate to the sister of the fourth baronet, Theodosia, wife of the Reverend Mr Stotherd Abdy. He died in 1773 and his library was sold in London by S. Baker and G. Leigh in November 1775 in a mixed sale, the prices being fixed and printed in the catalogue.
