Allen, John (1789 -1829)

John Allen, the younger, was a bookseller and antiquarian notable for his work on the history of Herefordshire. He also took a keen interest in local affairs, and brought together a remarkable collection of antiquities, books, manuscripts, maps, and prints relating to Herefordshire. His comprehensive Bibliotheca Herefordiensis, or A descriptive catalogue of books, pamphlets, maps, prints, &c., relating to the county of Hereford, 1821, was printed in a very small edition of twenty-five copies. He also planned a history of the county, but died before he could finish it.
