Clarke, John Hyde (1777 -1857)
Burke’s General Armory gives Clarke, of Hyde Hall Cheshire, probably John Hyde Clarke, descendants of George Clarke, Lieutenant-Governor of New York (son of George Clarke, of Swanswick, Somerset), who married Anne, daughter and heiress of Edward Hyde of Hyde Hall. John Hyde Clarke was born in Trelawney, Jamaica. He served with the Royal Navy. In 1824 he was appointed one of H.M Justices of the Peace for the counties of Chester and Lancashire and subsequently for Derbyshire.
In 1808 he married Ann Joyce, and had four children. In his latter years he moved to Llangollen, and died in Oswestry, Shropshire.
