Colquhoun, John Campbell (1803 -1870)

John Campbell Colquhoun, of Killermont and Garscadden was the son of the Lord Clerk Register, Archibald Campbell Colquhoun, and Mary Anne, daughter of The Reverend Mr William Erskine. He was educated at Edinburgh High School and Oriel College, Oxford, where he matriculated 23 March 1820, age 17, and took his B.A. in 1823. He succeeded to his father's estates in 1820, and married, 10 September 1827, Henrietta Marcia Powys, daughter of Thomas, 2nd Lord Lilford, He was Member of Parliament for Dumbartonshire 1832 1834, for Kilmarnock Boroughs in 1837 1841, and when he failed to hold the latter seat, became one of the Members for Newcastle under Lyme in 1842. He retired from Parliament in 1847 because of ill health, and wrote a number of works on biography and politics.
